Under the direction of Randi Andersen, Mallory Aronoff and Laura Itzkovitz, the Shore Road School Musical Theatre Club’s talented cast and crew impressed their peers and a Winthrop Avenue student audience with performances of the musical drama “Aladdin Jr.” on March 10. The performances were to originally serve as previews/dress rehearsals for evening performances for parents and the community on March 12 and 13, but school closures due to the coronavirus pandemic prevented the student-actors from shining on the evening stage.
Based on the Disney production, Aladdin Jr. is the story of the street urchin named Aladdin, played by Anthony Goeller, who meets the Sultan of Agrabah’s daughter named Jasmine, played by Mikella Rahim. While visiting the royal palace, Aladdin stumbles upon a magic oil lamp that unleashes a genie (Makayla Bowman). Together, Aladdin and the genie set out on a dangerous mission to stop Jafar (Daniella Schneider) from overthrowing the kingdom.
