As an extension of their science curriculum, third-grade students at Winthrop Avenue School in Bellmore explored a 19-foot inflatable replica of the earth as part of the “Our Living Earth” program. Experiencing the same view astronauts get from space, the students examined the “Earth Balloon” in its entirety right in their own school. They observed the silk-screened outer portion of the earth and then crawl inside for insight on everything from plate tectonics to political geography and biomes. Topics of conversation included geography, climate, and culture.
