This school year, the Charles A. Reinhard Early Childhood Center in Bellmore implemented the Peaceful Bus Program. Throughout the year, the students will meet with specific staff members who are identified as their bus team leaders. They will engage in a variety of activities as a bus community, aimed at building a greater sense of camaraderie and respect for each other on the bus. The role of the bus driver will also be elevated, and the students will begin to see their drivers as an extension of the school.

To kick off the program, teachers performed a short skit that reinforced how the school is integrating the Bellmore Stars Core Values of integrity, respect, dedication, trust and teamwork with this program. Dressed as characters from “The Wizard of Oz,” the teachers visited “the Wizard” to gain the core values necessary for good behavior and a peaceful bus.

“This proactive program teaches students to be responsible ‘rising stars’ and to respect themselves and each other. Most importantly, it helps each student to be safe on the bus,” remarked Principal Clifford Molinelli.
