Winthrop Avenue students learned more about the Eastern Woodland Native Americans when Marianne Chasen and Maddi Cheers presented the program “Journeys into American Indian Territory” as part of an in-house field trip at the school. During the curriculum-based event, the students discussed the geographical location of the Algonquian and Iroquoian peoples, their methods of survival and their form of government.
The students also participated in a simulated deer hunt, explored the interior of a longhouse, made clay pots and tried their hand at traditional American Indian games such as the ring and pin and the Iroquois dice game Atenaha.
