A Celebration of Leadership and Literacy

Students and their families attended the district’s annual Literacy Night at Reinhard with fun-filled activities and a PTA book fair for avid readers. This year’s theme was “Fall into Reading” and incorporated a leadership theme, encouraging sixth-grade students to greet families and assist with various activities.

Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Dr. Joanne Dacek explained that the evening’s goal was to promote student leadership as well as literacy. “Not only did Literacy Night promote reading, it also brought a community of learners together and allowed the older students to shine,” she said.

There were ample opportunities to celebrate the written word. Foreign language teacher Señora Lorena Cuttitta read stories to the audience in Spanish, while teachers and administrators also read stories aloud and acted out the parts during the Readers’ Theatre. There was a Star Sing-A-Long of the district’s character education songs and a station where parents and students worked together to create a family mission statement. Students also constructed colorful origami star bookmarks and necklaces and had the opportunity to take a selfie with the district’s new star mascot, Stellar.
