Are you a bucket filler or a bucket dipper? That was the question heard around Bellmore’s Charles A. Reinhard Early Childhood Center following a character education assembly program based on Carol McCloud’s popular children’s book, “Have You Filled Your Bucket Today? A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids.”

During the program, which was paid for through a grant from Nassau County to encourage healthy habits, the students learned that bucket fillers are those who share kind words or perform kind deeds as opposed to those who make mean comments or show disrespect.

The goals of the bucket-filling program align with the district’s core values and are: to create more rewarding lives and a positive culture as you increase kindness, respect, and courtesy; to decrease mean-spiritedness and negativity; and to learn how to keep your bucket filled by understanding and rising above occasional bucket-dipping situations.
