Following weeks of early morning practices and learning sheet music and lyrics, the fifth- and sixth-grade student-musicians at Shore Road School performed two winter concerts for parents, fellow students and administrators on Jan. 23.

The orchestra, directed by Kathy Rostholder, opened the concert with four pieces, including Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty Waltz.” Under the direction of Laura Laude, the chorus sang three selections, highlighted by a medley of Bruno Mars tunes featuring “Just the Way You Are” and “Billionaire.” The concert band, under the baton of Jennifer MacVicar, concluded the program with three selections, including Brian Balmages’ “Fanfare and Fireworks” and “Comet Ride.”

In the program, the three music directors thanked members of the Board of Education, administration, teachers, and secretarial and custodial staff for their support and cooperation. “Most importantly,” they wrote, “we would like to thank the parents of our outstanding students for their continued support of our efforts to bring a solid music education to their children.”
