Students in Amanda Kowalski’s first-grade class at Reinhard took a trip around the world in class to see how different countries celebrate the holiday season.

During the weeklong lesson, countries studied included Sweden (St. Lucia Day), Israel (Hannukah), Kenya (Kwanzaa) and Mexico (Christmas.) On Dec. 18, students and parents worked together to create different holiday crafts, including wreaths, poinsettias, dreidels and Kwanzaa flags. They also had the opportunity to enjoy holiday treats as they completed each station.

“The students learned that, no matter where the holidays are being celebrated, family is a big part of it,” Kowalski said. “While a lot of things are different, a lot of things are the same as well.”
