Working with local ceramic artist Catherine Russell and art teacher Stephen Gorey, third- and fourth-grade students at Winthrop Avenue School worked on a cooperative art project to beautify their school. Using the sole of their sneakers, clay, a needle tool and a triangle cutout, each student created a unique art piece that will make a larger art project.

Once all of the individual pieces were made, they were left to dry for one week, placed in a kiln at 180 degrees for 12 hours to harden and then painted by the students. The finished pieces will be joined in a large star design, representing the district’s character education logo. Using the leftover clay, each student created a pendant in a design of their choosing.
