In celebration of the 236th anniversary of Flag Day, the entire student body and staff at Bellmore’s Shore Road School created a living flag. Dressed in either red, white or blue, the students and staff lined up in the shape of the American flag on the school field and sang “The Star Spangled Banner.” They also shared facts about the American flag, including when and how the flag should be displayed as well as the proper way to dispose of a ripped flag.

“Throughout the school year, students have studied the history of the United States in their social studies curriculum,” said music teacher Laura Laude, who organized the living flag event. “In their music classes, they even learned about the events that led to the writing of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ by Francis Scott Key on the evening of Sept. 13, 1814.”
