In recognition of national Fire Prevention Week, Reinhard kindergarten students and their parents took a walking trip down Bellmore Avenue to the Engine Company 2670 station.

Fire Chief Thomas Stoerger welcomed the students and explained that firefighters are friends and to never hide from one of them. “The firefighter is always your friend, because friends help friends,” he said.

Ex-Captain Jim Messmer spoke about fire safety, including the need for smoke detectors and a family escape plan, as well as how to “stop, drop and roll.” The students listened to the sound of a smoke detector and watched firefighter Cory Mumolo dress in his gear. They were even able to climb aboard a fire truck pumper.
