First-grade students concentrated on becoming stronger Bellmore Star Leaders during an art lesson with teacher Michelle Block at Reinhard.

The students first studied the district’s core values of integrity, dedication, trust, respect and teamwork. After cutting stars out of construction paper, they were asked to think about how they personally have demonstrated a core value. Using the art of collage, the stars were then decorated to reflect the student’s choice of a core value. For instance, one student decided to make his star a baseball player, because athletes demonstrate dedication.

In addition, the students recited and pasted the school pledge on the back of each of their stars to prepare for the pep rally in October, an annual event which further enhances the district’s teaching of core values and leadership principles.
