Pre-kindergarten students in Alison Burke’s and Liz Haine’s classes at  Reinhard spent the day studying apples. During this favorite fall activity, the students read “A Day at the Apple Orchard” by Megan Faulkner and other apple-themed books, discussing the difference between fiction and nonfiction literature. The students learned that when apple picking it is best to lift, twist and then pull the fruit so as not to damage the tree.

The students also tasted golden delicious, Granny Smith and red delicious apples. After biting into their apple slices, the students described the fruit’s texture and taste. The students also determined the class’ favorite apple by graphing their personal favorite on the Smartboard.
