In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, kindergarten students at Reinhard took a walking trip down Bellmore Avenue to the Bellmore Fire Department’s Engine Company 2670 station.

Assistant Chief Tom Stoerger spoke to the students about fire safety in the home, including the need for smoke detectors, a family escape plan, how to “get low and go” in the event of a fire and to “stop, drop and roll.” The students listened to the sound a smoke detector makes during a fire, were instructed on how a fireman looks in his gear, and even had the opportunity to climb aboard a fire truck.

“The most important message is that the firefighter is always your friend, because friends help friends,” Mr. Stoerger told the students.
