The students in Lauren McHale’s fourth-grade class at Winthrop Avenue School in Bellmore took a field trip to the Seaford Senior Center. During their trip, the students were paired with senior citizens to interview them. Students spoke with their partners about a variety of topics related to character education, including bullying, what it means to show integrity, and advice to live by in order to be a “good person.”

Following the visit, the students reflected on the knowledge that was shared with them and created written pieces about the advice they were given. “It was hard to tell who enjoyed the day more, the fourth graders or the seniors,” remarked Mrs. McHale. “Both groups have asked for a repeat trip to the Center!"
