First- and second-graders at Reinhard got a sneak peek into their musical futures on June 8 when the select band and orchestra from Shore Road introduced them to instruments they can play when they move on to Winthrop Avenue School.

Winthrop Avenue students can choose from the violin, viola, cello or bass as part of the orchestra in third grade, and participate in band (flute, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, drums) beginning in fourth grade. Third-graders are also introduced to the recorder during music class.

The Shore Road orchestra performed several songs during their visit to Reinhard, including “Let It Go” and “For the First Time in Forever” from the movie “Frozen” and popular hits “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “My Girl.” The band followed with the theme from “Indiana Jones” and a medley of  “Another One Bites the Dust” and “We Will Rock You.” Each instrument was featured on a solo basis to demonstrate its role in the ensemble.
