Popular superheroes, book personas and fairytale characters paraded across the Reinhard’s auditorium stage to the delight of parents during the school’s annual Book Character Parade, held on Oct. 31. Announced by Principal Patricia Castine, the  students briefly posed with their teachers who dressed up as Dr. Seuss characters. After marching around the auditorium and to their seats, they participated in a Halloween tune singalong under the direction of music teacher Randi Andersen and led by select Rising Star Leader students.

During her introductory remarks, Ms. Castine explained to parents that the day’s event ties in with the District’s literacy program and initiatives and that elementary school is a literacy emergent time in their children’s lives. “The best thing you can do is read to your child each night,” she said. “The more they read, the more they can do. Readers are Leaders.”

Prekindergarten students, although not a part of the Book Character Parade, also entertained parents with a show of Halloween tunes and a poem. After their brief performance, the students joined their parents to make a Halloween frame craft.
