PTA Committees
Each major PTA activity is organized and overseen by a commmittee. Committees are run by parent volunteers. In accordance with the PTA By-laws each position may be held for no more than one consecutive term or 2 years.

The Executive Committee members are officers of the association. These officers are expected to attend Executive Board and General Membership meetings, as well as any special meetings called by the Presidents. The Executive Committee consists of:
- Co-Presidents: 2 Positions
Preside over Unit. Oversee PTA activities in the three schools. Lead monthly PTA meetings.
- Honorary Vice-President: 1 position
Past PTA president. Offer assistance and support as needed.
- Executive Vice Presidents: 2 Positions/Center
Direct the PTA affairs at each of the centers as elected. Provide assistance as needed to representatives of committees for that center.
- Treasurer: 1 Position
As the authorized custodian of all funds, the Treasurer is responsible for obtaining all deposit slips from the Finance Committee, disbursing all money as prescribed in our by-laws and keeping accurate and detailed records of all money received and disbursed in the treasurer's permanent record. Treasurer will also report at Executive Board and General Membership meetings the balance on hand at the beginning of the period, receipts and disbursements, balances on hand in each fund, and the total balance on hand on the date of the report. Treasurer is also responsible for preserving all vouchers, receipts, bank statements and canceled checks, making sure books are audited annually in accordance with the by-laws and delivering to auditor(s) the checkbook, bank statements, treasurer's books, paid bills, canceled checks, receipts, and vouchers.
- Recording Secretary: 1 Position
Recording Secretary is responsible for recording minutes at all meetings of the Executive Board and General Membership meetings and preparing minutes to be presented for approval at the following meeting. Recording Secretary is also responsible to bring to each association meeting a copy of approved bylaws, keep a record of board members' attendance at meetings and act as custodian of all records except those specifically assigned to others.
- Corresponding Secretary: 1 position
Corresponding Secretary is responsible for receiving all correspondence, notifying members of meetings, sending mail pertaining to all PTA matters, and sharing correspondence with the Executive Board and with PTA members at monthly meetings.
The Executive Board is comprised of ongoing PTA committees. The Executive Board is required to attend scheduled Executive Board meetings as well as a minimum of 3 General Membership meetings. The Executive Board consists of:
- Cultural Arts Committee: 2 positions/Center
Plan, in conjunction with the center principal, all Nassau County BOCES approved Arts in Education Programs, such as music, theater, dance and visual arts performances and workshops, to enhance the children's educational experience. Operate within the Cultural Arts budget.
- Education Committee: 2 Positions/Center
Organize and implement (in conjunction with the center principal) the NYS PTA Parents As Reading Partners (PARP) program, which will include a presentation by an author/illustrator. Operate within the Education budget.
- Lunch Program Committee: 3 Positions/Center
Organize PTA lunch program. Prepare lunch cards and menus, coordinate lunch counts, collect funds, order food, and coordinate all funds with Finance Committee.
- Membership: 2 Positions/Center
Responsible for collecting membership funds at designated Center, coordinating membership funds with Finance Committee, distributing membership materials to parents, maintaining membership records for the assigned Center, and completing and distributing membership cards. The Membership Committee is also responsible for coordination of appropriate payments to NYS PTA with Treasurer, along with the coordination of returning extra membership cards to NYS PTA.
- Reflections Committee: 2 Positions/Center
Implement (in conjunction with the center principal) the NYS PTA Reflections Program (a visual and language arts competition). Secure judges and submit winning entries to district level. Appropriate forms must be filled out and submitted to Nassau District PTA judges as scheduled.
- Ways and Means Committee: 3 Positions/Center
Coordinate 3 main fund-raising events (Gift Wrap, Holiday Boutique and Plant Sale) in the assigned Center. The Committee is responsible for submitting funds in a timely manner to the Finance Committee while maintaining records of all events. The Committee will coordinate volunteers as necessary to support each event and attend all events. Each event takes place over a 2-3 day period.
Appointed Committees:
- Book Fair Committee: 2 Positions/Center
Organize the Fall and Spring book fairs. Coordinate schedules with center principal and the book company (e.g. Scholastic). Secure volunteers that help run the book fair. Submit funds in a timely manner to the Finance Committee of the Center. Each Book Fair event takes place over a 2-day period.
- Bulletin Board Committee: 2 Positions/Center
Responsible for monthly decorating of Birthday Bulletin Board.
- Class Parent Coordinators/Grade Representatives: 1 position per Grade Level. This is a one-year position
Assigns all grade Chairpersons, class Parents and classroom Representatives. Organizes Teacher/Class Parent Tea at beginning of school year. Acts as a liaison between grade chairperson, class parents and grade representatives. Responsible for making sure parent lunch serving volunteers have been secured at their center. Also responsible for making necessary calls to class parents when emergency phone calls are required.
- Fashion Show Committee: 3 positions
Organize, plan and run the fundraising fashion show. Identify vendors and location; coordinate models; oversee ticket sales.
- Finance Committee: 1 Position/Center
Obtaining all funds from committees following events (e.g., membership, book fairs, gift wrap, lunch, plant sale, holiday boutique, etc.), making timely bank deposits and immediately forwarding deposit slip receipt to Treasurer. Will coordinate all finances of the assigned center with the unit Treasurer.
- Health and Safety Committee: 2 Positions/Center
Plan, in conjunction with the Center principal, a Health and Safety Week. The committee will make arrangements with outside organizations to present various health and safety programs in our schools (e.g., Long Island Railroad, Nassau County Police, Nassau County Fire Dept., The Coast Guard, etc.). Coordinate the program schedules with the principal, staff and volunteers.
- Historian Committee: 2 Positions/Center
Photograph PTA events (e.g., Cultural Arts, Book Fairs, Pumpkin Patch, Holiday Boutique, barbecues, Field Day, etc.) and prepare annual photo journal. Update plaques listing past PTA presidents and Founder's Day award winners.
- Installation Dinner/Founder's Day Committee: 3 positions
Organize, plan and run the Installation Dinner/Founder's Day; identify location for dinner; secure donations of raffle prizes; promote ticket sales.
- Newsletter Coordinator: 2 positions
Create the Bellmore Buzz newsletter; coordinate with committees to get updates on current happenings, draft articles and review with PTA presidents
- Parent Center Representative: 1 position
Share Community Parent Center activities and programs with members at PTA meetings.
- Pre-School Coordinators: 2 Positions. This is a one-year position.
Coordinate and organize Pre-K socialization program for 4-year-old children including registration, ordering materials and supplies, and supervising volunteer teachers. Registration takes place in June. The program runs from October to May, twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) with one 2 hour AM and one 2 hour PM session each of the 2 days. Pre-school coordinator does not have to attend the weekly pre-K sessions, but has the option to teach one of the classes. (See following description.)
- Pre-School Teachers: 12-15 Positions available every year
Work with Pre-School Coordinators. Teach one Pre-K, 4-year-old class on a weekly basis from October to May for this socialization program. Assist in coordination and design of projects for children as well as weekly tasks of teaching the calendar and the weather. Help the children become accustomed to the school environment.

Procedures Manual Coordinator: 2 positions
Create and update the PTA procedures manual to reflect committee procedures.
- Program Coordinators:2 Positions/Center
Responsible for coordination of special events of the center, in conjunction with the center principal as appropriate (e.g., barbecues, pumpkin patch, 100th day of school, Thanksgiving Baskets, recycling, etc.)
- School Board Representative: 1 Position
Attend School Board monthly meetings and report to the PTA issues discussed.
- Site Based Team (SBT): 3 positions/Center
Participate in monthly morning meetings with center principal, teachers and CSEA representative to discuss issues directly related to the center.
- 6th Grade Committee: 6 Positions
Coordinate the various activities as they relate to the 6th grade such as fundraising to support graduation celebrations and events. One fifth-grade parent to observe and serve a 2-year term.
- Staff Recognition Committee:2 Positions/Center
Organize the annual Staff Recognition Day Luncheon for the center. (e.g., decorations, invitations, and ordering of food for the luncheon). This event generally occurs in the Spring.
- By-laws Committee: 1 position
Oversee the by-laws and procedures (standing rules) of the organization. Review by-laws, revise as necessary and submit to NYS PTA in a timely manner.
- Teacher Liaison: 1 Position/Center
Each center shall have a teacher representative who will attend general meetings and provide information both to and from the instructional staff as well as to and from the PTA.
