Shore Road students demonstrated the leadership principle of continuous improvement through participation in the school’s annual Pick A Reading Partner Week. Sponsored by the PTA and held on Oct. 19-23, the students pledged to increase their reading by 15 minutes to half an hour each day.

PARP is a New York State PTA Program, which encourages parents, staff and community to collaborate in the building of a reading partnership between home and school, and to motivate students to love reading. This year’s theme was “Read, White and Blue – Elect to Read.”

The week’s activities kicked off with a virtual presentation by popular poet Darren Sardelli, who amused the students with his techniques for writing and examples of his poetry. Students were encouraged to wear a red, white and blue mask, strut stars, stripes and flag designed socks, and wear patriotic colors to show school spirit. Students also researched the answers to fun, educational trivia questions and casted their vote for their favorite book.
