Students and faculty dressed as book personas, fairytale characters and superheroes to celebrate Halloween to the delight of the entire learning community.

In addition to engaging in seasonal activities and crafts throughout the day, students gave book talks on the fiction and nonfiction tales that prompted their festive costumes. The PTA also generously provided a pumpkin patch. The pumpkins were used in science and mathematics lessons where seeds and gourd parts were studied and measured. Additionally, the pumpkins were decorated before being taken home.

Principal Patricia Castine, who dressed as a leopard from the fable, “How the Leopard Got Its Spots,” encouraged the students to read every day. “The more you read, the more you can do. Readers are Leaders,” Ms. Castine said.
