Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph Famularo was featured on 103.9 Long Island News Radio’s segment of Spotlight on Long Island with commentator Bob Vecchio, where he spoke about the Bellmore School District’s designation as a Lighthouse District and a Promising Practices District.

This is the second time Dr. Famularo has been featured on the program, having been interviewed as a “singing superintendent” for his original song written for the Class of 2020 this past spring: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM-zKe0Rj4A.

Mr. Vecchio and Dr. Famularo commenced the interview with an update on the district and its handling of the pandemic this school year. Dr. Famularo explained that the opening of schools was extremely successful due to teachers, administrators and staff working together and communicating with parents and the community. He complimented the Bellmore Star students as “flexible and adaptable” and noted that they will be a special generation having dealt with this adversity.

Dr. Famularo explained that the district’s strong culture and character development program have assisted students in their learning during trying times.

“A strong, safe, social-emotional environment is needed to have a strong academic environment,” Dr. Famularo said. “Every student is a leader, first of themselves, then with others and then of others. The Leadership Principles help students understand what they have control over.”
