Winthrop Avenue School students focused on physical and social-emotional continuous improvement during the school’s annual Health and Safety Week, held on Feb. 8-11.

On Medical Monday, Bellmore Fire Department paramedic Paul Zuckerberg spoke to the students about the importance of first aid and demonstrated some simple techniques in case of injury. District social worker Christine Davison then gave a presentation about how to rise above bullying on Talk it Out Tuesday.

On Wind Down Wednesday, students employed strength, balance and flexibility as they practiced yoga with yoga teacher Donna Coogan. They learned that yoga, along with learning to hit the pause button and being present, can assist them with their self-care and continuous self-improvement.

Lastly, the students watched the Juggling Nutrition Magician Show by Foodplay on Tasty Thursday, which taught them about foods they should incorporate into a healthy lifestyle.
