Letter from the Superintendent

Dear Bellmore School Community,

Following the tragic and unthinkable act of violence that occurred in Connecticut on Friday, our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and their school community.

The safety of our students and staff is always our number one priority. We have safety procedures in place that are practiced throughout the year in the presence of a Problem Oriented Police Officer, and continuously reviewed with law enforcement.

Throughout the week, members of our mental health team are available to assist any student who may need to speak with an adult regarding this terrible tragedy. Do not hesitate to reach out to us if you feel that your child is in need of special assistance and/or if you feel that you need guidance with how to best approach this situation with your child. For additional resources on helping your child deal with their emotional response to this tragedy, please visit the National Association of School Psychologists.

Our Bellmore community has been challenged in so many ways over the past several weeks. As always, administrators, staff and mental health teams are available and prepared to respond to the needs of students and parents.

Regards,
Dr. Joseph S. Famularo
Superintendent of Schools
