Winthrop Avenue students have promised to read an additional 15 minutes each day with a partner through participation in the school’s annual Pick a Reading Partner event. The school has set a goal to collectively read an additional 50,000 minutes this month. If they succeed in fulfilling their goal, Principal Sally Curto will perform a challenge to be revealed later this month.

“You need to be dedicated to your commitment to read,” Mrs. Curto told the students. “You become better readers by reading.”

To kick off the event, Betsy Isley from the Sagamore Hill National Park Foundation, the home of Theodore Roosevelt, took the students on a camping exhibition to match this year’s PARP camping theme “Read S’More.” In addition to introducing them to Barb Rosenstock’s book “The Camping Trip That Changed America” about the establishment of the nation’s national parks system, she hosted an activity that introduced the students to the many animals living in national parks.
