Winthrop Avenue students have been working with physical education teacher John Wolkiewicz during their gym classes to create a choreographed hula-hoop routine to accompany a medley of Michael Jackson songs.

The first 10 minutes of each gym period, which is given twice weekly, are devoted to practice of the routine. The three-minute choreographed number took nearly four months to perfect.

“It’s an engaging way to get students to warm up for their classes, and they have a lot of fun doing so,” Mr. Wolkiewicz said.

This is the third year Mr. Wolkiewicz has been starting his classes with choreography. Last year’s props of choice were jump ropes, and next year’s will be pool noodles.
