Reinhard students celebrated the written word during the month of January during the annual Pick a Reading Partner event themed “The Reinhard Reading Crew Needs You.” Sponsored by the PTA, PARP encourages students to adopt a leadership role by reading with someone for an additional 20 minutes per day.
The students exceeded their 50,000 minute reading goal by recording 56,071 minutes of reading for the month on the nautical themed bulletin board in the main hallway. In addition, Reinhard families attended Literacy Night on Jan. 30, where students participated in lighthouse bookmark crafts, a readers’ theatre of Melinda Long’s “How I Became a Pirate,” a schoolwide scavenger hunt, and a STEM activity to build a boat out of foil to float. Principal Patricia Castine also read Sophie Blackall’s “Hello Lighthouse” to enthusiastic students before they retired for the evening. Fifth and sixth grade student leaders also assisted in welcoming families to the event and assisting the students with their STEM activities.
