One of the best ways to become a leader is to choose a mentor. Each month, the school highlights a leader in literature and art for students to study. During the month of March, Dr. Seuss was selected by faculty as a Leader in Literature for all Charles A. Reinhard Early Childhood Center students in Bellmore to study. 
The timing of Dr. Seuss’ selection as a Leader in Literature paralleled the iconic author’s birthday on March 2 and the nation’s annual Read Across America event. Sponsored by the National Education Association, Read Across America is a reading initiative in observance of Dr. Seuss’ birthday in which special literacy activities were hosted. 
At C.A. Reinhard, kindergarten students logged onto www.Seussville.com with the assistance of librarian Mary Willis and gleaned information about his life, books and art. Ms. Willis read several of his books to the students, who then made “Cat in the Hat” hats. Dr. Seuss’ books were also on display for students and faculty to check out of the library and were accompanied by a free bookmark with inscribed Seuss quotes. 
In addition, students dressed in green to acknowledge Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham.” Students also identified silly alliterations in the “ABC” book and teamed up for a graphing and sorting activity associated with “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.” Of course, there was much independent reading of  Dr. Seuss books, culminating in a graphing activity of their favorites.
