The artwork of students from Winthrop Avenue School in the Bellmore School District will be assembled into a decorative display to celebrate the building’s 100th anniversary.

Winthrop’s 100th birthday has become a schoolwide celebration as Winning Star Leaders have come together to perform and present artwork dedicated to the occasion. Art classes led by teacher Michelle Block and artist Cathy Russell were no exception. On Dec. 6, students began the process of making a ceramic-themed 100th anniversary display inspired by artist Wassily Kandinsky. Fingers got messy with clay as students molded it to perfection in matching circular shapes. Once the clay dries, projects will be colorfully painted and added to a display shaped like a tree, which mimics Winthrop’s deep-rooted history.
