The annual Thanksgiving parade that runs down Broadway made its way to Winthrop Avenue School in the Bellmore School District as students created their own festive floats on Nov. 21.
Using balloons and any crafting material they could think of, Winning Star Leaders in third grade worked on their own Thanksgiving Day parade float based on their favorite fictional character or real-life idol. Students creatively suspended the balloons in the air with straws and popsicle stick bases, while the balloons themselves were decorated with colored tape, paper cutouts and yarn to closely resemble its inspiration. Once the parade was assembled, students also reflected on the many things they are thankful for.
