Sixth graders at Shore Road School in the Bellmore School District adopted new mascots for a two-day event as they represented different colleges and universities for the annual College Olympics.
The exciting competition on Feb. 13 and 14 had sixth grade classes divide into teams that sported the colors and logos of educational institutions such as the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Maryland. On the first day, teams presented their intricate team banners and performed original songs in front of judges. Teams then faced off in rounds of timed basketball shooting, a fitness relay and volleyball. Cheers rang out from the gymnasium as teammates encouraged one another. Through the highly anticipated event, Shore Road Shining Star Leaders are reminded of the importance of collaboration and camaraderie in any competition.
The Maryland Terrapins presented their team banner to judges.
