Bellmore students get lesson in leadership with principal read aloud

The Winning Star Leaders of Winthrop Avenue School are settling into the new school year with read aloud sessions with their principal that instill them with a growth mindset.

Principal Sally Curto is making routine stops to each classroom throughout the building, much to the excitement of students anticipating her visit. Mrs. Curto has been sharing the children’s book, “My IOU Life Ship,” written by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph Famularo. Embracing the story, students set sail on a sailboat and face the unpredictable encounters that come with the journey, including making friends through sea animals and navigating rough waves. The tale serves as a metaphor for students to look inwards, spread positivity outwards and maintain a growth mindset. Mrs. Curto’s read aloud sessions feature student interaction, with students getting engaged through questions and relating the story to their personal experiences.
