Winning Star Leaders at Winthrop Avenue School in the Bellmore School District led the way during a tour of the building for local school district administrators, highlighting the many innovative program found within.

Several school districts visited Winthrop Avenue on Jan. 21 to observe the district’s promotion of student leadership through its Core Values and Leadership Principles as part of the Bellmore Stars Character Development Program. At each grade level in Bellmore Schools, students are encouraged to take on meaningful leadership roles. Tour leaders highlighted many of these roles, including the Aquarium Leaders and the Communication Action Team which makes morning announcements. Also showcased was the Star Lab, featuring an interactive projection for leadership and curriculum based games and the art gallery with artwork from students throughout the district. Star Leaders discussed their class mission statements, created at the start of the year, and their digital leadership notebooks. To conclude the tour, guests gathered in the auditorium for a presentation by Shore Road students regarding their leadership initiatives, to learn Leadership Principles and hand signals from Reinhard Early Childhood Center students, and hear the Bellmore Leadership songs sung by Winthrop Avenue students.
