Students at Winthrop Avenue School got a close-up look at an amphibious creature on May 29 during an exciting lesson by guest science specialist Brian Wallrapp – known affectionately as “Frog Man.”
Third grade classes gathered in the Star Lab as they excitement built during Mr. Wallrapp’s presentation. Using books, props, frog-shaped toys and a real frog skeleton, Mr. Wallrapp taught students about many variations of frogs and their life cycles. Students learned about their habitats, what food they eat and their formation from tadpole to frog. Students let their eagerness known as Mr. Wallrapp had a special surprise in store – a real-life frog nicknamed “Bobby.” Mr. Wallrapp held Bobby and brought it around to each student as they stood in a circle, giving each Winning Star Leader a chance to feel its skin. Bobby was then placed on the floor as classmates cheered while he hopped around. In an exciting display, lucky students laid in a square while Bobby jumped over them. The memorable lesson showed third graders the unique animals found in the wild while emphasizing the importance of showing respect for living things.
