The Bellmore School District closed out a successful year of learning and growth by celebrating some of its brightest Star Leaders during the annual Student Recognition Night on June 16.
Family members and loved ones filled the Winthrop Avenue School auditorium to cheer on students as they shined on stage. Dozens of students on the Student Star Polisher Teams from Reinhard Early Childhood Center, Winthrop and Shore Road School each received individual recognition and a commemorative button. The Student Star Polisher Teams work with their principals and other staff members to create opportunities for the district’s Leadership Principles to be reinforced. Additionally, dedicated Star Leaders on Winthrop’s Student Advisory Council received applause.
The winner and runner-up of Shore Road’s annual Spelling Bee received special recognition. The winner was crowned after successfully spelling “Metropolis.”
Shore Road’s fifth grade Hackathon team showed impressive effort at this year’s competition against nearby schools by winning first place. Because of their win, next year’s Hackathon will be hosted by the Bellmore School District. The team, “Kentucky Fried Coders,” received recognition. Additionally, Shore Road’s sixth grade coding team, “Codebusters,” also received praise.
Finally, trustees accepted the retirement of 12 staff members. Nine retirees in attendance contributed a combined total of 205 years of service to the district. Board members read individual commendations for retirees, honoring their many years of service to Bellmore’s students and staff.
