The Shining Star Leaders of Shore Road School’s Class of 2026 reached the ultimate achievement of their elementary school years as they officially became middle schoolers following their graduation ceremony on June 24.
Graduates opened the ceremony by leading the color guard, flag salute and singing “Star Spangled Banner.” Principal Patrice Matthews commended the Class of 2026 on their character and perseverance, relating their journey to the New York Knicks’ recent championship win.
“The Knicks did not just get lucky – they worked incredibly hard for every single win,” Mrs. Matthews said. “It was because the whole team worked together. The teammates played amazing defense, gave 100 percent effort, and most importantly, they all trusted each other on the court – and that feels a lot like you as Bellmore Stars.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joseph Famularo reflected on the districtwide theme this year, “Ignite the Stars Within.”
“Each of you has a star within you – that star is what makes you great. Your kindness, your curiosity, your courage, your leadership,” Dr. Famularo said. “From your early years in Bellmore that star has shined brighter and brighter.”
The sixth grade band and orchestra gave a final performance as students of Shore Road School before students stepped up to the microphone to discuss their class history and give a farewell to the school. Students presented Mrs. Matthews with a class gift of a framed photo of the entire graduating class. The sixth grade chorale closed the ceremony with “I’ll Always Remember You” before each graduate received their diploma.
