Earth Day was a schoolwide celebration at Reinhard Early Childhood Center in the Bellmore School District on April 19 as students led performances and planted new greenery.

Music teacher Joanna Rocco worked with Rising Star Leaders to learn a variety of Earth Day songs to sing for visiting parents. As a community, they took the Earth Day Pledge promising to take care of the planet and preserve important resources. The auditorium was decorated with kindergartners’ artwork before they took to the stage for the first time to perform songs, including “This Pretty Planet,” “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” “If All the Raindrops,” and a favorite, “Mr. Golden Sun.” First and second graders also showed their leadership through performances of their own.

Following the final performance, the school community gathered in the school’s back yard to plant a Red Sunset maple tree. The PTA worked with a local nursery to secure the perfect tree to add to the Reinhard grounds, which is an annual Earth Day tradition.
