I had the honor of harvesting one of the carrots our PreK students grew after a year of careful nurturing and care. Watching our youngest learners experience the joy of growing something from seed to harvest was truly special. Great leadership by our PreK teachers made this meaningful learning experience possible. Family members and loved ones filled the Winthrop Avenue School auditorium to cheer on students as they shined on stage during the annual Student Recognition Night! We recognized Student Star Polisher Teams, Winthrop’s Student Advisory Council, Shore Road’s Spelling Bee winner and runner-up and our fifth and sixth grade coding teams, “Kentucky Fried Coders” and “Codebusters.” #IgnitetheStarsWithin #StarsLeadandLearn

A beautiful Field Day for our Bellmore Winning Stars! It was wonderful to see our students enjoying the sunshine, showing great sportsmanship, and celebrating the joy of being active together. Winthrop Avenue students enjoyed an exciting lesson by guest science specialist Brian Wallrapp, known affectionately as “Frog Man.” A real-life frog nicknamed “Bobby” was brought around to each student as they stood in a circle, giving each Winning Star Leader a chance to feel its skin. Bobby was then placed on the floor as classmates cheered while he hopped around. In an exciting display, lucky students laid in a square while Bobby jumped over them.

Sixth graders had the unique opportunity to hear firsthand testimony from Holocaust survivor and author Marion Lazan, who shared personal experiences of resilience, courage and hope. Mrs. Lazan recounted her traumatic survival through atrocities during the Holocaust, emphasizing the importance of kindness, acceptance and standing up against hatred and intolerance. The powerful experience left a lasting impact on students and reinforced the value of learning from those who lived through significant moments in history.
