students in firetruck

Kindergarten classes throughout Reinhard Early Childhood Center in the Bellmore School District have been visiting their local firefighters at the Bellmore Firehouse throughout the month of October.

On Oct. 23, students in Mrs. Yandolino’s class took a short walk from Reinhard alongside their parents and were greeted by former chief Tom Stoerger and the Bellmore Fire Department’s large red ladder truck. Sitting inside the firehouse, Mr. Stoerger shared important fire safety tips, such as listening to a fire alarm, staying low to the ground when there’s smoke and checking a door to see if it’s hot. Lieutenant James Rand equipped his fire gear, showing students what it takes to keep them safe. Students were enamored as they stepped through the firetruck to see the perspective of firefighters when they rush to an emergency.
