Students at Shore Road School in the Bellmore Public School District wrapped up Health and Safety Week with an exercise focused on kindness and sharing compliments.
Fifth grade Shining Star Leaders in Christina Colletti’s and Jody Leibowitz’s classes gathered in circles in the school’s front lobby on Jan. 27. While holding the string from a ball of yarn, students passed the yarn throughout the circle while sharing a compliment about the person they passed it to. The web of yarn seen at the end of the exercise signifies classmates’ appreciation of one another and reminded them they can boost someone’s day with a compliment.
Throughout Health and Safety Week, lessons about healthy and safe living habits were shared, such as how to safely navigate the internet. Shining Stars also came to school dressed in different colors for each day, including yellow for friendship and red for emotional well-being.
