On Oct. 25, fifth and sixth graders from Shore Road School in the Bellmore Public School District showed members of the Board of Education their latest coding skills acquired in school.

Under the guidance of library research and technology skills teacher Lauren McHale, students crafted codes that would initiate several separate simple functions, such as Everett Sumersille’s code which calculated a user’s age on other planets. Board of Education members were in attendance during the special presentation at Winthrop Avenue School to ask questions and see first-hand students’ skillful grasp on coding. Coding lessons will continue through the same program, KidOYO, as they graduate from Shore Road and enter middle school.
