Fourth graders at Winthrop Avenue School in the Bellmore School District channeled their creativity as they crafted original fictional stories inspired by real life events.
Winning Star Leaders learned about realistic fiction as they read the book “The Losers Club” by Andrew Clements. Students learned that such stories contain fictional characters, settings and events that reflect the real world and contain a problem with a believable solution. Each young author crafted their own original tale, from soccer tryouts to an encounter with sea lions and a trip to Disney World. After writing their conclusions, students presented their realistic fiction stories to their classmates.
